Chapter 60

Trying to keep her racing pulse from affecting her words, Kelly shook her head as she looked at the photo, not wanting to look in Charlie’s face. “That’s just two lines, not an eleven,” Kelly said her voice firm.

But she had to admit, now that Charlie said that, she saw the eleven. The same group that Nick had mentioned. But Nick was a history buff, that was clear from the whole origins of the Christmas tree story. He probably read something about this Ötzi guy and had come up with the whole Eleven group to fit.

“Perhaps, perhaps,” the agent murmured as he slid another image across the table. The boys gave up their counter positions and pulled up chairs on either side of Kelly.

“What do you see here?” the agent asked, tapping the photo.

She looked at the image and frowned. It was a black and white closeup image of a woman in 1920s clothes hurrying down a city street. Oz peered at it. “Is she on some sort of movie set?”

Tilting his head, Charlie studied her younger son. “What makes you say that?”

“She’s wearing older style clothes, but she’s talking on a cellphone,” Archie replied.

Charlie grinned brightly. “Exactly.”

And Kelly didn’t know what to make of the reaction.

“All right, how about here?” The agent placed another image next to the first.

This black and white image was taken outside where a crowd of people was surrounding a car. The car was a much older model, although Kelly couldn’t see enough of the car to recognize it.

The men and women all wore older style clothing, early twentieth century at least. Most of the men, in fact, wore suits with hats. All except one guy with longer curly hair. He wore a lightweight hooded puffer coat partially unzipped with a graphic tee underneath and was the only one with sunglasses on.

Her first guess was it was another movie set, but she somehow doubted that the agent had stopped by to test their knowledge of esoteric movie trivia. She frowned. “I don’t know... maybe the director of the movie? I mean, the rest of them are all in kind of old-fashioned clothes again, and that guy looks like he should be sitting in a coffee shop strumming a guitar.”

Charlie chuckled. “He does indeed. Let me give you one more.” He placed a third image on the table. Kelly and the boys leaned forward to get a good look at it.

Unlike the others, this one was actually a photo of a painting. It was a group of men in old time clothes from maybe the seventeenth century. There were even Native Americans in native garb, except one was looking down at a cellphone.

“Is he holding a phone?” Archie asked.

“Okay, I get it. These are all AI-images.” She let out a little chuckle. She should have thought of that sooner. Maybe even the Iceman was an AI image, used to get them to reveal more about Nick.

His smile a little wider, Charlie sat back contentedly. “That’s an excellent guess.
